I was in love with the open windows of Amsterdam and the bright light of the first sunny days of spring. A lot of the photographs I took were later transformed into watercolor paintings, as you can see in this very portfolio.
These photographs were taken during a visit to the little villages of Aracati and Canoa Quebrada (”broken canoe” in Portuguese), on the northeast of Brazil, in 2011. The wind was constant, the air was always salted and smelled of fish and sugar cane. The empty beaches and streets were silent for most of the day, not counting the sounds of cooking pots through open windows, birds hiding from the sun and waves crashing. The textures of the objects and landscapes were real characters there and I fell in love with the light and colors.
I was merely 25 years old in 2004, when I backpacked through Italy carrying my first little Nikon digital camera. I spent 30 days on my own, thinking about my next move in life and love. These are some of the things that caught my eye than.
